2025 CSUWP Thinking & Writing Institute:

For the Love of Teaching and Learning

"Make yourself useful by doing something hard with good people."
- Kelly Corrigan
This is precisely why the CSU Writing Project is hosting a PAID opportunity to participate in a Zoom book club in May.  This year's theme is "Reading and Writing for the Joy of It!"

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wed., April 30
Each book club is capped at 10 participants. Applications will be reviewed in the order that they are received. Apply here.

WHO’S ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE:
K-12 educators in any content area who could use a little more joy in their teaching lives.

  • Option #1: May 8, 15, & 22 (all Thursdays), 5-6:30pm - Ignite your own creativity as a writer by discussing The Art of Voice: Poetic Principles and Practice by Tony Hoagland (with Kay Cosgrove).
  • Option #2: May 7, 14, & 21 (all Wednesdays), 5-6:30pm - Replenish your teacher soul by discussing The Lightmaker’s Manifesto: How to Work for Change without Losing Your Joy by Karen Walrond. - THIS BOOK CLUB IS NOW FULL. We encourage you to consider Option #1 since a few spots are still available there.

HOW IT WILL WORK: Upon acceptance, you will be mailed a free copy of the book and the Zoom link for your respective book club. Each 90-minute session will include lively conversation, informal writing and sharing, and a sustainable teaching activity.

WHAT YOU’LL GET:
  • A free copy of your book club book, mailed to your house
  • $75 stipend for attending and fully participating in all three book club sessions
  • The option to purchase 1 CSU graduate credit for $65
We think Corrigan's advice is a great way to frame meaningful professional development, especially PD that's aimed at helping educators (re)discover their love for teaching and learning.

If such an opportunity sounds like a worthy use of your time, we encourage you to apply for this PAID opportunity to
cultivate professional community, use writing as a tool for learning and reflection, design equity-centered curriculum, and discover the power of sustainable teaching to remind you why you chose the path of teaching.

K-12 educators in any content area are eligible to apply for this hybrid institute, which book-ends on-campus retreats in July and December with intervening Zoom meetings in between.

Participants will receive a $500 stipend, all books and materials, and the option to purchase 3 CSU graduate for less than $250 total.
-- To quote a teacher who was recently involved in a CSUWP program, "this is affordable credit for valuable work."

At the conclusion of the institute, they will also earn the official title of CSU Writing Project Fellow.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Fri., June 13

The institute is limited to 15 participants. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received
