PROGRAMS FOR TEACHERS
The Carl A. Bimson Seminar on Storytelling for Social Justice (begins June 12 and runs through December 2024) The CSU Writing Project is partnering with the CSU College of Liberal Arts to offer an interdisciplinary professional development opportunity focused on connecting narrative and the humanities in anti-bias, anti-racist teaching. This highly interactive seminar will equip secondary public-school teachers in the humanities with practical pedagogical tools for promoting critical dialogue in a counter-narrative storytelling community. Participants will receive a $500 stipend and a copy of the book Storytelling for Social Justice: Connecting Narrative and the Arts in Antiracist Teaching (Bell, 2020). You will also have the option to purchase three CSU graduate credits at a reduced rate. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Fri., May 24 This seminar is capped at 20 participants. May 2024 Zoom Book Club
Dates: May 9, 16, 23 (all Wednesdays), 5:00-6:30pm on Zoom
This online book club is open to K-12 teachers in any content area. There is no cost to participate, and teachers will be mailed a free copy of Unearthing Joy: A Guide to Culturally and Historically Responsive Teaching and Learning by Gholdy Muhammad. Each book club meeting will include lively conversation, informal writing/sharing, and a sustainable teaching activity. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Mon., April 29 Limited to 10 participants. Students entering 4th-12th grade in the 2024-25 school year are invited to register for our summer creative writing workshops, which will be held on the CSU campus, June 24-28, 2024. In these highly popular immersive workshops, students will experiment with writing techniques in various genres, work in writing groups, learn from published writers, and more!
Snacks will be provided daily, and students will receive a free t-shirt at the end of the workshop.
